DETAILS: Victorian-era silver plated sardine box with swing handle and heavy glass liner. Engraved two-tone (silver and brass) lid with sardine and cattails. Fish-on-shell finial, same finial shown in the firm’s 1880 catalogue (V&A). Imported and merchandised by SILBER & FLEMING LTD., London (active 1854–1898). Base stamped with Crown, Fleur-de-lis, and “PGS” for plated German silver; imported from German makers. Claw footed base. Smooth satin frosted exterior on glass insert.
