Antique 1833 Spanish Embroidered Needlework Sampler
MATERIAL: wood, glass, linen, silk
CONDITION: Very good antique condition. Textile shows some waviness with water spot is visible on the backside. Backing paper is brittle, natural fading and patina consistent with age – see photos.
DETAILS: Fine 19th-century textile folk art piece, dated 1833. Silk on linen band sampler in a long, narrow format, typical of works created for display. Features a series of horizontal bands with distinct geometric motifs, including an alphabet and the maker’s name and completion date near the top. Executed primarily in cross-stitch, with threads in muted shades of green, blue, and warm golden-brown on a natural linen background. Framed behind glass in a thin wood frame.
